What Country is Mazda Made In?

Mazda vehicles are popular throughout the Chula Vista and El Cajon area, but what’s the origin of this international brand? The short answer to “What country is Mazda made in?” is Japan, but team Mazda is spread out throughout the world to send high-quality vehicles far and wide.

How Did Mazda Begin?

Team Mazda has its headquarters in Fuchu, Aki District, Hiroshima Prefecture. Not only is this its current home, but the brand has been stationed here since its founding in 1920! Back then, Mazda manufactured 3-wheel motorcycles known as autorickshaws. But as demand grew and technology progressed, Mazda branched out into motorized carts and new forms of transportation. This paved the way for the new Mazda inventory that we enjoy today!

Who Created Mazda?

Mazda was created by Japanese industrialist and businessman, Jujiro Matsuda. He created the first Mazda passenger vehicle in 1940 as demand grew for affordable vehicles with a compact design. This led to the creation of the famed Mazda rotary engine in the early 1960s, which led to countless innovations decades later.

Where is Mazda Made?

There are three Mazda manufacturing facilities in Japan, as well as several in North America in partnership with Ford. Take a look at where some of your favorite nameplates originate:

  • MAZDA3 Models: These models are produced in Hofu, Yamaguchi, Japan, while components like engine and transmission come from the Hiroshima plants.
  • MAZDA6 Models — The North American facilities in Flat Rock, Michigan and Claycomo, Missouri create the Mazda6 lineup.
  • MAZDA5 Minivan, MAZDA CX-5, MX-5 Roadster, RX-8 — These models are made in the Hiroshima facility in the Miyoshi ward. This location focuses on performance Mazda models.
  • Mazda SUVs and Sedans — These models are produced in Mazda’s Japanese plants.
